IMDb profile

Switchback is a 1997 thriller starring Dennis Quaid, Danny Glover, Jared Leto, and R. Lee Ermey, set in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado, and Amarillo Texas USA.

FBI agent Frank LaCrosse (Quaid) was in charge of tracking down an elusive serial killer, but when the killer kidnapped LaCrosse's young son, he was taken off the case by superiors who felt that this latest development would destroy his objectivity. If anything, Frank is now more determined than ever to catch the killer, and he teams up with a small-town police department to continue his investigation. Meanwhile, a hitchhiker named Lane Dixon (Leto) is picked up by Bob Goodall (Glover), an affable drifter. The movie switches back and forth between Frank's investigation and the story of the the two travelers. It quickly becomes apparent that either Bob or Lane is the killer, and that the other is therefore in mortal danger -- but the movie repeatedly causes the viewer to second-guess which one is the killer.
