Systems' Approach for Interpreting Horoscopes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Systems' Approach for Interpreting Horoscopes (SA) was developed by Indian astrologer and author V.K. Choudhry. Since the early 1990s, he has written ten books, articles, maintained a web site and participated in conferences and discussion lists to make SA accessible to students and practitioners of astrology.

The Systems´ Approach distills the essential causal factors in a horoscope for easier comprehension and more reliable prediction. Main emphasis is on the use of moolatrikona signs for determining house rulership, strength or weakness of planets and the most effective point (MEP) of a house.
- The moolatrikona signs are Aries, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Sagittarius and Aquarius. Each sign is considered to be ruled by a planet. Mars is the ruler of Aries, Moon is ruler of Cancer, Sun is ruler of Leo, Mercury is ruler of Virgo, Venus is ruler of Libra, Jupiter is ruler of Sagittarius and Saturn is ruler of Aquarius. Depending on the rising sign, the molatrikona signs then become numbered in line with the natural order of the zodiac. Each sign is then equated to a given house and represents basic qualities of that house. Moreover, the planet ruling the sign becomes the ruler of the given house and obtains the same qualities. Signs that go to houses six, eight or twelve, become malefic (dusthana) houses. They and the planets ruling them are associated with potentially harmful karma. The planets ruling other houses are considered benefic in nature. The Moon´s nodes Rahu and Ketu rule no sign, but carry harmful energy to the house of their placement and the planets they aspect.
- Specific rules have been brought out to determine the strength of planets. Planets in infancy (first five degrees of a sign) and in old age (last five degrees), lose power in proportion to the beginning or end of the sign. Planets near to the sun lose power by becoming combust. A planet in its sign of debilitation or in a dusthana house also becomes weak. Planets that are benefic in terms of house rulership but are considered weak in a horoscope may be strengthened through Jyotish or astral remedies. By comparison, the weak malefic planets are rarely strengthened. Rather, their potentially harmful impact is reduced through propitiation.
- The MEP means the rising degree and the five degrees above and below it. For instance when 16° Aries is rising, the MEP of the first house extends from 11°-21° in Aries. The same MEP applies to all the other signs/houses. When a planet is on the MEP of a given house, a karmic effect results depending on the planets benefic or malefic nature. The impact reduces proportionately as the planets are closer to the edge of the MEP.
Due to such specific assignments in horoscope reading, both interpretation, prediction and remedies are claimed to have become more reliable.
Many consider it fortunate to make use of the ancient spiritual knowledge of astrology to deal with the many aspects of life. Astrology on the basis of the Systems´ Approach has been found to help people to charter and manage the course of success in life for health, career, love, relationships and financial matters.
- The use of vedic astrology is mainly for identifying karmic problems and treating the same. While medicine is used to treat health problems, astral remedies are claimed to prevent them. Astral remedies consist of a Kavach or a Special Power Kavach and propitiation. Kavach is used to strengthen weak planets while propitiatory remedies are used to reduce the harmful impact of malefic planets. The strength of SA is its accuracy of interpretation and prediction. While the efficacy of its astral remedies are proven by many, as a practice it is properly considered belonging to faith healing.
- The interpretation and the suggestion of jyotish remedies is based on the planetary influences in the individual horoscopes. In addition to their preventive uses, once problems are detected, astral remedies help in diagnosis of the health problems and the application of medical remedies. Jyotish remedies act as panacea in all aspects of life and in harmony with medical remedies for various types of health problems.
Many scientists do not believe that there is any evidence that astrology has any predictive value. See for example work done by the Australian Skeptics or CSICOP on testing astrology. Astrology is a controversial subject.
The scientific research referred to above, with both negative and positive results, has been mostly based on western astrology. As western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, it is quite different from vedic astrology, which uses the sidereal zodiac. Vedic astrology is one of the six branches of the Vedas, a divinely inspired or sacred knowledge. Vedic astrology excludes the three outermost planets (Uranus, Neptune and Pluto). The Systems' Approach for Interpreting Horoscopes is a branch of vedic astrology. While western astrology generally has no clear rules of interpretation or prediction, SA has very precise such rules, which is claimed to make it more reliable in interpretation and prediction. This has bearing on the choice of scientific experiments referred above. For example, the prediction of SA concerning the Mars effect would have been for a different and less homogenous outcome than in western astrology.
