Thailand Route 44

Route 44 is part of land bridge project. It starts at intersection with Route 4 in Krabi Province, running northeast, and ends at intersection with Route 401 in Surat Thani Province

Route 44 is part of land bridge project of Thailand's southern seaboard. However, the other parts of project have not yet built. Route 44 was slated to connect between seaports at west coast and east coast of Thailand. However, as the locations of seaports did not yet finalized, the route was built only middle part. About 50 km at start and end parts will be constructed when the location of seaports are finalized.

Route 44 is unique in that it was design to accompany other type of transportations. Therefore, both directions are about 100 meter apart. Tracks, pipeline and other type of transportation will be built between road. However, as land bridge project was stalled. There are nothing in the middle of road yet.

Route 44 has no level-intersection. There is only 1 intersection bridge at intersection with Route 41. Other road intersected with will be cut. Drivers from other road will have to turn left into Route 44, make a U-turn and turn left back to original road.

As the reason for Route 44 is to service unbuilt seaports, it doesn't pass near any city. There are very little facility along the route, no gas station, sporadic mobile phone signal, etc.

In Krabi Province, it starts at Amphoe Ao Luek and passes through Plai Phraya. It enters Surat Thani Province at Amphoe Phrasaeng and passes through Amphoe Khian Sa, Amphoe Ban Na Doem, Amphoe Mueang Surat Thani and ends at Amphoe Kanchanadit.

Total length is about 190 km. About 40 km is in Krabi Province and 150 km in Surat Thani Province. Route 44 is asphalts for entire length and has 4 lane, 2 lane for each direction with about 100 meter ditch to separate direction.
