The Bitch is a British film released in 1979. It is a sequel to the The Stud (1978), and like which, was based on a novel of the same name by British author Jackie Collins. It again starred her sister Joan Collins - reprising her role as Fontaine Khaled, the owner of a trendy disco now facing financial problems whilst having to deal with the men in her life as well as the Mafia. The plot of the film differs slightly to that of the novel, particularly the ending.
Although both The Stud and The Bitch were generally panned by critics, they were nevertheless both huge commercial successes and revived Joan Collins' career after more than a decade in the wilderness. Later, the two films attracted the attention of Aaron Spelling and Esther & Richard Shapiro when they were looking for an actress to play the part of Alexis Carrington in their hit TV series Dynasty. In that sense, the two films were an integral part of Collins' becoming one of the biggest TV stars of the 1980s.
The film features a disco soundtrack, in a similar vein to Saturday Night Fever, and the theme song to the film performed by Olympic Runners became a UK top 40 hit in August 1979. Like its predecessor, the film is considered to be "soft porn". Both films have since become camp cult classics, and were amongst the first to be released on home video
