The Canterbury Tales is a dramatic anthology series that aired on BBC One. Each episode is an adaptation of one of Geoffrey Chaucer's 14th century Canterbury Tales which are transferred to a modern setting. The series first aired on September 2003 and ended after six episodes on October 16, 2003.
From Chaucer's original collection, the producers chose six tales:
- "The Miller's Tale" — set in Rochester with James Nesbitt and Billie Piper
- "The Wife of Bath" — with Julie Walters and Paul Nicholls
- "Knight's Tale"
- "The Sea Captain's tale" — set in Gravesend with Om Puri
- "The Man of Law's Tale" — set in Chatham with Andrew Lincoln and Nikki Amuka-Bird
- "The Pardoner's tale" with Jonny Lee Miller
The original tales are told by a group of pilgrims travelling from London to Canterbury. Many of the modern versions are set on the same route.
