The College of Law (CoL) is a registered charity in the United Kingdom which provides legal training for students and professionals.
Its campuses are located at Guildford (Braboeuf Manor) in Surrey, Birmingham (Great Hampton Street) in the West Midlands, Chester(Christleton Hall) in Cheshire, York (Bishopthorpe Road) in Yorkshire, and Bloomsbury and Moorgate in London.
A variety of courses are offered, principally the Graduate Diploma in Law (otherwise known as the Common Professional Examination, or more informally as the 'Law Conversion Course'), the Bar Vocational Course (the professional qualification for barristers), and the Legal Practice Course (the professional qualification for solicitors).
The College is the largest postgraduate legal education provider in Europe with 5,300 students in 2005 [verification needed], and is also a major provider of Continuing Professional Development courses for solicitors and barristers.
The Open University's courses in Law (including the LLB by distance learning) are offered 'in association with' the College of Law.
In May 2006 the College became the first private institution to receive the power to award degrees, allowing it to award the degree of LLB to those of its students who complete both the Graduate Diploma in Law and the Legal Practice Course[1].
