"The Diamond Sea" was the first single from Sonic Youth's 1995 album Washing Machine.

The radio edit of this song is significantly shorter than the version that appears on the album (which is 19:35), but the alternate version is actually several minutes longer than the album version.
The video for The Diamond Sea was directed by Spike Jonze, Lance Bangs, Dave Markey, Steve Paine, and Angus Wall. The video compiles live footage from their headlining tour dates on the 1995 Lollapalooza tour.
