From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"The God that Failed" is the tenth track from Metallica's fifth album, Metallica, a.k.a. The Black Album, released in 1991. It was never released as a single, but was the first song of the album to be heard by the public.
The song is about Faith, and human reliance on it. The central theme is of unrewarded belief in a God that fails to heal. The lyrics and song material reflect Hetfields' anguish on the circumstances surrounding his mothers' death. She died of cancer after refusing medical attention, soley relying on her belief in God to heal her.[1]
