The Godfather Part IV

The Godfather Part IV (film)
The Godfather Part IV, possibly yet another installment in the famed Godfather series. Confirmed by the studio, though official details have not yet been released.

Production
The saga has been considered a success by countless critics over the past several decades, and another film from Paramount Pictures and series director Francis Ford Coppola is eminent. Although rumors have been circulating since the last release of a Godfather film, (The Godfather Part III in 1990), the possibility of such a film has recently become a more serious prospect. Talks between Paramount, Coppola, and Andy Garcia (actor portraying character Vincent Mancini in Part III) have been occurring with increasing consideration.

Plot Summary
Unfortunately Mario Puzo, long-time author and screenplay writer of The Godfather series, died in 1999. Rumors of an already completed script before his death proved false, and the likelihood of a fourth installment suddenly seemed dim. However, since his death author Mark Winegardner has resumed his work, releasing two novels, The Godfather Returns (2004) and The Godfather's Revenge (2006). Paramount was anxiously awaiting the arrival of "Returns," hoping it would provide inspiration enough for the new film. After the release of both "Returns" and "Revenge," a rat within the ranks of the studios commented, "Returns and Revenge films seem to have been ramped up to active-development status- meaning they'll probably get underway within the next year." Since Puzo is no longer available to write the screenplay based on his own novels, it would be expected Winegardner would follow up his novels with the subsequent screenplays. When asked about his possible involvement, he responded, "Movies are such a collaborative process. If you're a screenwriter, it's like being a plumber. I'd rather remain a novelist, where you're in control of everything. You're the director, you're the actors, you're God. Who wants to relinquish the role of God?" If Godfather installments four and possibly even five are to become a reality, the necessary next step is for Paramount to secure a screenwriter.

Casting
Initially Andy Garcia had hoped to reprise his role as Vincent Mancini, however as rumors surface that Part IV will be a prequel, his character would not logically be involved. Talks with Leonardo DiCaprio have taken place regarding the role of Sonny Corleone, as well as with Anthony LaPaglia for an undisclosed starring role.

Location
Allegedly Melbourne, Australia is being considered for the primary shooting location.
