The Inmates

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Inmates are a British garage rock/pub rock band formed in the late 70's who in the early 1980s, had a medium sized international hit with a cover of The Standells' "Dirty Water" and a UK top 40 hit with The Walk

Around 1981 the lead singer Bill Hurley became ill following a breakdown and his place was taken for some time by Barrie Masters who had recently split with Eddie and the Hotrods. The Inmates continued to record and tour with Barrie until he decided to reform the Hotrods and Bill Hurley was well enough to return to his rightful place fronting the Inmates.

One of The Inmates songs, "So Much In Love" was covered by the pseudo-60's band The Lonely Boys in the mid 1990's.

The Inmates are still working and touring (2006) especially in continental Europe after 25 years, and still have four of the original five band members playing both originals and covers
