The episode opens with a protesting Sunako, as she is being surrounded by the four boys. She protests that she does not want to have her bangs cut, but is held in place by Takanaga. Kyohei speaks in her defence, responding that Sunako should not have to cut her bangs if she does not wish to. Meanwhile, in the background, it is mentioned that the boys' bathroom shower is broken, so they will have to use Sunako's bathroom. This goes unheard by Sunako, who is more concerned about saving her hair.

Yuki then asks Sunako why she hates to show her face, and why she will not cut her hair. Sunako initially refuses to answer, but is forced to reply due to threats by Kyohei. There is a small clip shown of Sunako's confession being rejected, with a commentary by her. The boys (especially Kyohei) are all flabbergasted that she would give up on herself after such a small occurence. Sunako admits that she used to care more for her appearance and was just like the average teenage girl. However, Sunako decided that if she was ugly that all of the hard work was a wasted effort, so she should give up then and there. The boys are then promptly thrown out of the room. The boys wonder what type of guy would be so cruel to a girl.

After a soliliqy by Sunako about her appearance, the scene cuts to the bathroom. Sunako is still upset over the attempt to cut her hair and does not notice that the bathroom was occupied. She enters the showering area, only to discover a very naked Kyohei. Both teens scream and Kyohei jumps out a window to escape. Because he went outside, he develops a small cold. Upon telling his male roommates about the mix up, he is teased lightly about seeing Sunako naked.

The next day at school the four boys enter the school gates amidst a throng of swooning girls. The Goth-Loli make their cameo appearance in the episode, stating that they are fans of the four. They state their fantasies about the boys, but are alarmed at the sight of Sunako. The Goth-Loli are then run over by a horde of fans.

Noi then enters the scene, upon which all of the female fans leave. Noi instantly befriends Sunako, despite Sunako developing a nose bleed due to Noi's beauty. After a squabble between Kyohei and Noi, Sunako is taken to class by Kyohei. Despite not wanting to stand out, coming to school with the boys has made Sunako the center of attention, including the school newspaper staff. Wishing to have a picture of her face, the newspaper announces a photo derby. There is a 100,000 yen prize for anyone who can take a picture of her face. Sunako is then chased throughout the school, finally ending up in the sports shed.

A group of Ganguro girls follows Sunako to the shed, yelling at her to cut her bangs. Surprised at the revelation that the bangs makes her stand out more, Sunako is stunned into silence. Kyohei (having heard about the contest)discovers Sunako's hiding spot, and comes in time to keep the jealous girls from attacking her. The girls then attempt to deny their actions, with one girl accidentally injuring Kyohei with her fingernails. Seeing the cut, Sunako snaps out of her shock and defeats all of the girls, much to the admiration of Kyohei. After the fight concludes, Sunako cuts her bangs and demands that the girls apologise to Kyohei.

After the fight it is discoverd that Kyohei has developed a fever due to the shower incident earlier in the episode. Sunako is ordered to care for him, as it was her fault he caught the cold. Sunako is then ordered around mercilessly by Kyohei, causing Sunako to fantasize about killing him. Sunako is almost at the breaking point when Noi arrives, giving her a moment of rest. Noi listens to Sunako's problems, but grows angry at Sunako's talk of beauty and ugliness. She scolds Sunako for not trying, telling her that Sunako should try to become a "creature of the light" instead of trying to remain in the darkness.

Sunako is distracted by this remark for the remainder of the day, with its effects reaching even to her cooking. The remaining three boys attempt to persuade Sunako that it is possible for her to become beautiful, with Ranmaru showing her a picture of Noi from middle school. The Noi of middle school was very unattractive, showing Sunako that with effort it is possible to become pretty. Sunako leaves the room, upon which Ranmaru confesses that the picture was a fake given to him earlier in the day. The episode ends on a comedic note with Sunako attempting to kill Kyohei for his beauty with a scythe, while the remaining boys are sucked into Sunako's whirlpool of chaos.

  • The episode covers several chapters of the manga at once.
  • Kyohei's injury by the Ganguro girls differs slightly from the manga. In the manga the injury is actually caused by the lead girl waving the scissors around, where in the anime it is caused by her fingernails.
