The Quicksilver Classic is the third event to be staged at Quicksilver Golf Club, which has held both a Nike Tour event and a Senior PGA Tour event in the past. The course went under new management early in the decade, and was able to bring course standards back to par with other tournament capable courses. Having hosted such players as the great Lee Trevino, Quicksilver Golf Club was able to stage a tournament. The Quicksilver Classic would be staged in the "third tier" of professional golf, the NGA Hooters Tour.

The first installment of the Quicksilver Classic took place on May 25th through May 28th in 2006. The Classic was presented by Ameriprise Financial, and featured a $21,500 champion's purse. The event took place in the same year as the final 84 LUMBER Classic which was a well perceived and attended event by Western Pennsylvania. The event was played from the pro tees and measured at a monstrous 7,083 yards. Irishmen Gareth Maybin captured his second career victory while taking hom the $21,500 check. Maybin shot 15 under par over four days of tournament play, and was followed by Grover Justice at 12 under par. The win was enough to move Maybin to third on the NGA Hooters Tour year money list.

No announcement has been made by the Hooters Tour nor the Golf Club, but there is a remaining strong possibility for the return of the event. With the closing of the 84 LUMBER Classic on the PGA Tour, a gap in professional golf has been left. Another question regarding tournament play at Quicksilver GC is if there is any motive to gain a "better tournament" from the Nationwide Tour or Champions Tour. The club has hosted events for the predecessors of both the Champions and Nationwide Tours.
