The Three Sisters Road
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Three Sisters is the name of a road in Mexico that traverses three major mountains.
The road officially has been closed for 30 years or more but there are sections of this old road that still exist today. Most of the road is washed away but the section of the Three Sisters is still intact. In accessible by car the only means of travel that are effective are off-road motorcycles or foot. Either is treacherous. Portions of this road wrap around cliffs that range from 50 to 200ft. At the top of the Third Sister there are several shrines built by the local people more than 40 years ago to ensure safe passage for travelers. These shrines composed of cement form several triangular tipis filled with candles of the virgin Mary and artificial flowers. Some shines are sealed by brick to preserve them from the harsh elements of Baja.
