The Ultraman

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ultraman (ザ☆ウルトラマン Za Urutoraman?) is an anime superhero series, and the first-ever animated version of the famous superhero Ultraman. The Ultraman featured in this animated 8th entry in the Ultra Series is "Ultraman Jonias" (AKA: "Ultraman Joe"), and he hails from the Planet U40 (as opposed to the Land of Light in Nebula M78, where Ultra-beings usually came from).

The series, produced by Tsuburaya Productions and Sunrise (which released the now-famous Mobile Suit Gundam the same year), aired on Tokyo Broadcasting System from April 4, 1979 to March 26, 1980, with a total of 50 episodes.

In the United States, there have been two feature-length movie compilations:

  • Ultraman II: The Further Adventures of Ultraman (1982), the first four episodes.
  • The Adventures of Ultraman (1981), the final story arc of the series.
