Thiago Alves Araujo (born October 3, 1983) is a professional Brazilian mixed martial arts fighter. Alves, who started training in Muay Thai when he was 15 and mixed martial arts at 17, is a Brazilian Muay Thai champion with a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.[1] He is currently a welterweight fighter in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, where, as of the end of 2006, he has compiled a record of 4-2 in UFC competition. During his sixth fight for the UFC, a victory against Tony DeSouza, Alves tested positive for a diuretic, Spironolactone, which he admitted he used to cut weight to the 170 lb. welterweight limit.[2]
He is currently associated and trains with American Top Team.
