From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Thundercage is type of Professional wrestling match that was used as a special attraction in the World Championship Wrestling. It was used for main events from 1989 in National Wrestling Alliance until 1994 in World Championship Wrestling. Such stars as Sting, Steve Austin and Ric Flair have been involved in this match. There were very few of these matches, but they were all spectacular events.
This match was made of a steel bars instead of fencing. It completely engulfed the ring. The cage would bend in at the top to make escaping the structure more difficult. Thundercage was also occasionally electrified, this match called Thunderdome match.

- Sting has competed in 3 of 4 Thundercage match (including Thunderdome match). He won every match that he wrestled.
- WCW World Heavyweight Championship was the only championship that defended in a Thundercage.
- In an old Championship Wrestling from Florida promotion match, Kevin Sullivan and Bad News Allen wrestled at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida on March 15, 1987 in a Steel Cage match. Kevin Sullivan dubbed the match and thus the card itself as Thunderdome, the name inspired by the movie Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. Sullivan would maniacally chant a line from the film "Two Men Enter! One Man Leaves!" in his promos. Sullivan went on to win and retained the NWA Florida Southern Heavyweight Championship. But there is no way of knowing if this inspired WCW to name their cage after this event.
