Tolle is one of Kira Yamato’s friends who also lives on the neutral colony Heliopolis and the boyfriend of Miriallia Haw. When Heliopolis is attacked by ZAFT troops, he and some other young people cannot find a safe shelter and thus are forced to flee on the streets, where they see the battle between the GAT-X105 Strike and a ZAFT ZGMF-1017 GINN. After the GINN is destroyed, Tolle and the others inspect the Strike and are forced to the Archangel by Murrue Ramius, where it is revealed that Kira is a Coordinator. Tolle is the first one to defend Kira when soldiers point their weapons on him. After the Archangel leaves Heliopolis, Tolle and his friends decide to help the crew and Tolle becomes the navigator of the ship.

During the following events, Tolle helps the Archangel crew as much as he can and also always holds to Kira. When the Archangel arrives in Orb on Earth, Tolle and his friends also meet with their parents. It is here that Tolle decides to become the pilot of a FX-550 Skygrasper, formerly piloted by Cagalli Yula Athha. After the Archangel leaves Orb, he tries to be helpful by aiding Kira in battle against the Zala Team, who are piloting the four Gundams stolen by ZAFT. Although this battle ends with the destruction of the GAT-X207 Blitz and the death of its pilot Nicol Amalfi at the hands of Kira Yamato, the Archangel is attacked again by the surviving members of the Zala Team just a few hours later. Their leader Athrun Zala, who pilots the GAT-X303 Aegis, is understandably quite agitated by Nicol's death, especially since he died trying to protect him. Hence, Athrun fights much more mercilessly this time around as evidenced when he heaves his shield into the Skygrasper, beheading Tolle. (In the original televison series, Tolle's death scene was shown from a distance, but in the Special Edition, it was shown up close.)

His death initially prompts Kira to avenge him by killing Athrun. Although he fails to do so, Kira remembers that the reason why Athrun was so merciless is that he killed Nicol earlier. When Kira and Athrun meet again during the Orb invasion, they acknowledge the deaths of Nicol and Tolle. Then they finally agree to stop fighting each other and work together to end the war before both sides kill each other.

Although no longer alive, Tolle continues to linger in the thoughts of his friend Kira, who vows never to let good people like Tolle die needlessly due to other people's hatred. His memory also gives Miriallia a reason to continue fighting.
