Tonbogiri
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Tonbogiri (蜻蛉切?) is one of three legendary spears created by the famed swordsmith Masazane, said to be wielded by the daimyo Honda Tadakatsu. The spear derives its name from the myth that a dragonfly landed on its blade and was instantly cut in two. Thus Tonbo (Japanese for dragonfly) and giri (sources have listed it as cutter/cutting), translating this spear's name as "Dragonfly Cutter/Cutting spear".
This is a type of short Japanese spear used for mounted combat and for samurai on foot, termed a yari associated with sojutsu.
This spear makes its pop-culture appearance in Onimusha 3: Demon Siege, Samurai Warriors, Kessen, and Final Fantasy XI Online.
