Triesh

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Triesh is one of the seven Albanian tribes of Malësi e Madhe. Trieshi, as well as Hoti, derive from a single ancestor named Keçi. The tribe consists of over 300 houses within a ten village radius. The ten villages of Trieshi are to include: Rudinë, Nikmarashi, Muzçeku, Budzë, Poprat, Stjepoja, Bekaj, Delaj, Cemi i Trieshit, and Koritë. The people of Trieshi are known to be "Trieshjan" or "Trieshjane" for females. The Trieshjan's follow the Roman Catholic faith, along with the overwhelming majority of Malsia. Trieshi had a number of leaders in the past, including: Mal Vata, Gjon Ujka, Malotë Gjeka, & Gjon Gjeka. These leaders and fellow tribes-man were successful in defeating the Turks and keeping them out of Trieshi. The Trieshjan's were never suppressed by the Ottomans, and as to result, never paid any taxes to the Turks (like almost all of Malsia). Along side the leaders, Trieshi also contributed several great singers, not to mention the most famous of them all, Nikollë Nikprelaj. Today, most people of Trieshi have immigrated to the United States in search for a better living, but those who still live back home are inhabiting the town of Tuzi or the capital city of Podgorica, Montenegro.
