Turkish Wikipedia is the Turkish language edition of Wikipedia, spelled Vikipedi. Started in December 2002, this edition has over 50,000 articles[1]. It is the 22nd largest[1] Wikipedia based on its articles, yet it is one of the 19 Wikipedias that had over one million article edits[1]. It is also one of the 9 Wikipedias that has more than 70,000 registered users[1]. In November 2006, Turkish Wikipedia was nominated under Science category for Altın Örümcek Web Ödülleri (Golden Spider Web Awards) which is commonly known as the "Web Oscars" for Turkey[2]. In January 2007, Turkish Wikipedia was awarded for "Best Content" award from this competition. The award was given in a ceremony at 25 January 2007 at Istanbul Technical University.

  • The Turkish version of Wikipedia was launched in December 2002.
  • 100 articles were recorded by January 2004.
  • In July 2004 it passed 1000 articles
  • By April 2005 it enjoyed an accelerated growth in membership and passed 10,000 articles in November 2005.
  • As of March 12, 2006, it has over 18,500 articles and over 14,000 Users.
  • As of March 18, 2007, it has 54.923 articles and 74.114 users.
