G4S Pirates Captain: S. Mawanda Pirates were in fighting mood last year, finishing second in the league. Their good pack play and strong line pits them against champions Kobs. “I believe the league is wide open,” Mawanda remarked. The side has recruited some youngsters though senior players Brian Makalama, Deo Tumuhairwe, Vincent Otim and Mawanda will shoulder the weight.

Hima Impis Captain: Paul Okecho The Makerere University academicians claim examination periods have always affected their run. “We start the season strongly but towards the climax, most of our players opt to concentrate on their examinations and the momentum dwindles,” senior player and chairman Tony Lugya assessed. He said better strategies have been put in place.

Rhinos Captain: E. Ochaya The side has found the league trophy elusive in the last decade. “We had many injuries last season but with new players, the sky is the limit,” Ochaya assumed. Veterans Ochaya, Ricky Senoga and John Musoke have the task of guiding the side.

Buffaloes Captain: Allan Tindikawa Kenyan international Tolbert Onyango made a futile attempt to lead the team last year. The coach /player could not help the developing side from a very bad season. The side lost players but has warned teams like Pirates to watch out. utl Kobs The league champions swept all before them last season and have been involved in a number of build up matches at their Kampala RFC home ground. Despite winning all the major trophies last season, the Kobs remain hungry. Kobs coach Arthur Mugweri told Daily Monitor in an interview that they need another quadruple win this season. Only Allan Matsiko, who crossed from Pirates will join last season's all conquering squad. He will join Frank Kwesiga as scrumhalf for Kobs.

"The boys are more prepared and this year's league is expected to be more challenging. Teams have recruited good players from around," coach Mugweri said.

In order to measure themselves against the best in the region, the Kobs have also promised to travel for the Bamburi 7s and the Nakuru Rift Valley 10s in Kenya this season.

MTN Heathens The record cup winners have the unenviable task of reining in their rivals, after failing to win any silverware last season. Heathens have restructured their team and recruited Uganda's most prominent lock Matthias Ochwo from Pirates, while Ronald Mwisaka has joined from Impis.

Benon Kizza, Eric Osinde, Phillip Lubega, Brian Kikawa, Chris Lubanga, Tolbert Onyango and Dan Obote have meanwhile all been promoted from Buffaloes to join the Heathens squad. Former captain Peter Magona is likely join the technical bench.

G4S Pirates The G4S Pirates were placed third in last year's league, but have lost a total of five key players. Youthful kicker and full back Alfred Karekaho, Wigi Rugumayo, Mpajji Bakalu and Roodney Turyagimbe have all crossed to Makerere University side Impis after they were offered scholarships.

Off-season recruit Paul Kabazze from Kisubi takes up the center position while Allan Lule has also bounced back from injury. "We are solid and teams should expect upsets this season," Pirates coach Sam Ahamya said.

Hima Impis Their ability to offer scholarships has made the Makerere University side a favourite destination for students. Impis has recruited Alfred Karekaho from Pirates, Simon Bakulu (prop) from St Mary's College Kisubi, Marvin Ayebare (hooker) from Boks, Wigi Rugumayo (winger) and flanker Richard Serungogi. They finished fourth last season but will be gunning for top honours.
