Ultra-liberalism is the most extreme and ideological form of liberalism. This utopian theory of political-economy advocates laissez-faire capitalism in an absolute sense, and is the equivalent of the predominantly American use of the term libertarian.
In American politics, the term is often used to describe political thought on the left-wing of the United States Democratic Party. Paradoxically, the term describes not laissez-faire liberalism, but social liberalism. It is typically used only by American conservatives as a smear.
