United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York

The United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York is the federal district court whose jurisdiction comprises the entirety of Long Island (including the portion in New York City) and Staten Island. The court's territorial jurisdiction includes the Counties of Kings (Brooklyn), Queens, Richmond (Staten Island), Nassau, and Suffolk.
The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York represents the United States in civil and criminal litigation in the court. The Acting United States Attorney for the district is Benton J. Campbell, succeeding Roslynn R. Mauskopf who was recently confirmed as the newest judge of the Eastern District.
The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York has 15 authorized judgeships, filled by judges appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. Currently, one seat is vacant due to Judge Korman's assuming senior status. Eleven judges who have taken senior status are eligible to continue hearing cases. As of March 19, 2007, the Chief Judge of the District is Judge Raymond J. Dearie, who succeeded Judge Edward R. Korman.
