The IT University of Copenhagen is a Danish cross-disciplinary University which approaches the study of information technology from a variety of perspectives: natural sciences (traditional computer science), software engineering, computer-supported cooperative work, the design and use of IT, e-business and the social, cultural and aesthetic aspects of IT.

The university has henceforth only accepted students with a Bachelor's degree (often in nontechnical subjects such as literature), but plans starting an undergraduate programme in 2007. There are currently six study programmes, two of these are international and are taught in English. There are approx. 40 members of the scientific staff, 40 Ph.D. students and more than 1000 students. Also, many external lecturers are affiliated with the university.

The IT University of Copenhagen was established in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1999. At that time, it was in Danish called "IT-højskolen". In 2003, when a new Danish University Law was passed, the IT University was officially appointed a University, the twelfth and smallest university in Denmark, and therefore changed name to the IT University, also in Danish.

In 2004, the university moved to its own new building in the Ørestad development, right next to the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Copenhagen and the coming headquarters of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR). The building was designed by Danish architect Henning Larsen.
