The University of Macau, (traditional Chinese: 澳門大學; pinyin: ào mén dà xué; Portuguese: Universidade de Macau) formerly known as the University of East Asia (Portuguese: Universidade de Ásia de Leste; traditional Chinese: 東亞大學; pinyin: dōng yà dà xué), was established in 1981, as the first university in the former Portuguese colony of Macau, now a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China.

The Chancellor of UM is Macau CE Edmund Ho and Rector Iu Vai Pan.

The university's campus on Taipa Island has expanded dramatically in recent years as a result of the region's rapid economic development and Macau's 1999 return to China. This expansion has allowed Macau to develop local talent as it evolves beyond its colonial past. Student enrollment rose from several hundred students in the 1980s to over five thousand today. Over the same period, the percentage of local Macanese students has soared from 39% to 90%.
