Upavon
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Upavon is a village in Wiltshire, England. As its name suggests it is on the upper portions of the River Avon which runs from the north to the south through the village. It is situated about 4 miles south of Pewsey, about 10 miles southeast of Devizes, and about 20 miles north of Salisbury. The roads A345 and A342 run through the village. Most of Upavon is between 90 and 100 meters above sea level.
Upavon Airfield is situated about 1 mile east of Upavon, and is home to the Central Flying School, the RAF's primary instructor-training institution. It is still used by the Air Training Corps for instructor and glider-pilot training, and shares its facilities with the Wyvern Army Gliding Club.
