Ustad Amir Khan (1912-1974), born in a family of musicians in Indore, India, was a well-known Hindustani classical vocalist. He is considered to be one of the most influential figures in Hindustani classical music during the 20th century, together with Bade Ghulam Ali Khan.
He developed his own singing style and helped popularise taranas, as well as compositions in Persian. Besides singing in concerts, he also sang film songs based on ragas, most notably for the films Baiju Bawra, Kshudhita Pashan, and Shabaab. He died a premature death in a car accident in Calcutta on February 13, 1974.
