Utsunomiya Line

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Utsunomiya Line (宇都宮線 Utsunomiya-sen?) is the name of two railway lines that serve the city of Utsunomiya, Tochigi, Japan. However, most references made to the "Utsunomiya Line" are generally referencing JR East's line.

  1. The (JR) Utsunomiya Line is the 159.9 kilometre portion of the JR East Tohoku Main Line. It runs from Ueno Station to Kuroiso Station.
  2. See Tobu Utsunomiya Line for the 24.3 kilometre line which runs from Shin-Tochigi Station in Tochigi to Tobu Utsunomiya Station in Utsunomiya. It is owned and operated by Tobu Railway.

Currently the word "Utsunomiya Line" more often indicates the JR Utsunomiya Line, especially in non-Tobu environment or context. The Tobu Utsunomiya Line is commonly just referred to as the "Tobu Line" by residents of the neighbourhood.
