Vientiane (Lao ວຽງຈັນ) is a prefecture (kampheng nakhon) of Laos, located in the north-west of the country. The capital of the country, Vientiane, is located in the prefecture. The prefecture was created in 1989, when it was split off from the Vientiane Province.
The province is made up of the following districts:
