Vyacheslav Tikhonov

Vyacheslav Vasilyevich Tikhonov (Russian: Вячеслав Васильевич Тихонов) (born February 8, 1928) is a famous Soviet actor, a recipient of numerous state awards, including the titles of People's Artist of the USSR (1974) and Hero of Socialist Labour (1982). He was born in Pavlovsky Posad near Moscow and worked at a factory. In the 1950s and 1960s, he was married to Nonna Mordyukova, a far more popular actress at that time.
His best known part was that of Standartenführer Stirlitz (a Soviet spy) in a famous series Семнадцать мгновений весны, Seventeen Moments of Spring. The 17 moments are 17 days in the spring of 1945 just before the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II. He also played Prince Bolkonski in the Oscar-winning War and Peace (1969) and an old man in another Oscar-winner, Burnt by the Sun (1994).
