W. Edmund Clark

W. Edmund Clark (born 1947) is the President and Chief Executive Officer of TD Bank Financial Group (known to lots of people as the Toronto-Dominion Bank), roles he held since December 20, 2002.

Mr. Clark also provides support to various community services and organizations that deliver programs to promote wellness and self-sufficiency, reduce poverty and inequality, and build sustainable communities in the Toronto area.

Married with four grown children, Mr. Clark and his wife, Frances currently make their home in Toronto.

W. Edmund Clark was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer on December 20, 2002. Prior to this appointment, he was President and Chief Operating Officer since July 6, 2000.

Mr. Clark joined TD Bank Financial Group as Chairman and CEO of TD Canada Trust following TD’s acquisition of Canada Trust Financial Services on February 1 , 2000. In this role he oversaw the integration of the TD and Canada Trust retail and electronic banking operations.

Mr. Clark was President and CEO of Canada Trust Financial Services Inc previously since January 1994. Mr. Clark’s initial position at Canada Trust was Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer.

From 1974 to 1984, he held a number of senior positions in the federal government including Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Energy, Mines and Resources Canada. From 1985 to 1988, he was a head of corporate and government finance of Merrill Lynch Canada in Toronto, specializing in underwriting mergers and acquisitions. In 1988, Mr. Clark joined Financial Trustco Capital Ltd. as Chairman and CEO, a position he held until 1991. In 1991, he was appointed vice-chairman and chief operating officer of Canada Trustco Mortgage Company and CT Financial Services Inc.

Mr. Clark graduated from the University of Toronto in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He earned his Master’s degree and Doctorate in Economics from Harvard University in 1971 and 1974 respectively.

Mr. Clark is the Co-Chair of the Heart and Circulation Campaign for the University Health Network (UHN), whose mission is to provide exemplary patient care, innovative research and education. Mr. Clark also provides support to Woodgreen Community Services and is a member of Habitat Humanity Toronto.
