WCRN

WCRN is an AM radio station in Worcester, Massachusetts owned by Carter Broadcasting.
The station broadcasts at 830 AM at a transmitter power output of 50,000 watts during the day and 5,000 watts at night (construction is underway to build a new tower which will allow the station to boost nighttime power to 50,000 watts in February 2007) and can be heard from Maine to Providence, Rhode Island and from Boston to Springfield, Massachusetts.
The station bills itself as "True Talk 830," with a talk radio format all day, except for financial shows from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays and infomercials at assorted times on Saturdays and Sundays. It previously programmed ABC Radio's "True Oldies" format from 2004-2006, big band/adult standards music from 2002-2004, and religious talk before that. In the past, the station had served as flagship for the Worcester Tornadoes minor-league baseball team and an affiliate for the University of Massachusetts at Amherst network for football and men's basketball broadcasts.
On May 8, 2006, WCRN changed to its current format, featuring former U.S. Congressman Peter Blute in morning drive, Laura Ingraham, Howie Carr, Michael Savage, Jerry Doyle and Doug Stephan weekdays, and programming from Talk Radio Network and Radio America on weekends.
As of 2007, WCRN is the Worcester affiliate of the Boston Red Sox radio network, replacing WTAG, which had carried Sox games for forty years.
The station is owned by the Carberry family, who also own WACE in Chicopee, Massachusetts. Kurt Carberry is the vice president and general manager; the program director is Mike Roberts.
