WCTC-AM is a radio station serving Central New Jersey, broadcasting at 1450 on the AM band. It is based in New Brunswick. Offering a news and talk format focusing on Central New Jersey news, politics, culture, traffic, weather, sports, it is the chief radio broadcaster for Rutgers University athletic events and Somerset Patriots minor league baseball games. WCTC is also the primary source for winter school closing announcements. During the daytime, WCTC broadcasts several Paul Harvey news segments. WCTC derives its callsign from the Chanticleer, a flamboyant fighting rooster from the medieval fable Reynard the Fox (Le Roman de Renart) also used by Geoffrey Chaucer's in the Canterbury Tales which was the Rutgers mascot from 1925 to 1955.
