WFXV signed on in 1986 as WTUV[1]. The station eventually became a Fox affiliate, and in 1990 the call sign was changed to WFXV.

WFXV was acquired by Nexstar Broadcasting Group in 2003, when it purchased then-owners Quorum Broadcasting.

WFXV's programming primarily consists of Fox network and syndicated programming.

WFXV used to air the Bill Keeler Show, a local late-night comedy series, until 2005, when the series moved to WKTV.
