WNNS-FM

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

WNNS-FM is located in Springfield, Illinois at 98.7FM. The station was signed on the air in 1982, originally owned by Springfield businessman Carl Flipper. The original format of the station was based on soul music and the call letters "NNS" stood for "New Natural Sound". Studio and office space for WNNS was leased from Mid-West Family Broadcasting in the first few years of operation. Mid-West Family Broadcast eventually acquired the license for WNNS-FM and is currently the owner.

The station switched to the adult contemporary format in 1984 and remains in the genre today.

WNNS boasts one of the longest running morning programs in radio across the country. Brian Pierce and Kellie Michaels have been the morning team since November 22, 1992. Their show is based on topical issues and humor with lots of audience interaction. Brian Pierce was previously at KLUV/Dallas, B97 New Orleans and WZOU/Boston. Kellie Michaels is also the stations program director and operations manager.

Other on air personalities include Deb Kennedy in middays, who has been a part of the station since 1988, and Steve Parker, who is the afternoon drive personality since 1998.
