Womad Reading

Womad Reading is one of the festivals of Music, Arts and Dance that go under the banner of Womad. Womad Reading is the only Womad festival that takes place in England on a consistently annual basis. The music that is performed there is mostly World Music, but Blues, Jazz, Hip Hop and Rock artists also appear.

The festival took place every year on the last weekend of July, at the Rivermead Centre and Little John's Farm in Caversham, near Reading, England.

The first Womad Reading was held in 1986, and the last festival was held in 2006, as announced on the 4th October 2006. The festival has been replaced by Womad Charlton Park,Wiltshire.

The festival now lasts three and a half days, stretching from the Thursday evening to early Monday morning.

  • Open Air Stage
    • Sometimes referred to as the Main Stage, it is one of the two stages sharing headine acts, along with the Siam Tent. This stage hardly ever double books with the Siam Tent, as all the biggest artists usually appear on either stage.
  • Siam Tent Stage
    • Usually referred to just as the 'Siam Tent', this stage was introduced in 1998 as an alternative to the Open Air Stage
  • Village Stage
    • The Village Stage had a brief spell of being named 'BBC Radio 3 Village Stage' when BBC Radio 3 started covering and sponsoring the event, although the change was reverted after the introduction of the 'Radio 3 Stage' in 2006. It usually hosts names famous in the world music circuit, but those of which are quieter, or acoustic performers.
