From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

WRIU is a non-profit radio station operated by the University of Rhode Island. It broadcasts on 90.3 MHz from Kingston, Rhode Island at 3400 watts. The station covers most of Rhode Island, and parts of Connecticut, Long Island, and Massachusetts.

The station is funded both by the URI Student Senate and donations from listeners. The station is open to participation by both students and community members. However, the executive board is almost totally comprised of students elected by student members of the staff with one elected non-student.

WRIU has a block schedule format, with content in areas of classic rock, alternative, punk, metal, hip hop, jazz, classical, comedy, kids' programming, public service programming, talk radio, electronic music, world music, sports, and news. There are 10 hours of freeform radio every week reserved for URI students. The remaining time of the week is presented by a combination of students and community members.

Rhode Island emcee Sage Francis was a DJ on the station, and made many appearances on various hip hop shows.
