WWEV began broadcasting on December 8, 1981. In the beginning the radio station was totally automated. The music and announcers were taped. The tapes were then shuttled back and forth to the transmitter site on Sawnee Mountain in Cumming. It was not actually a radio station. At the time it was a one room portable building at the base of the tower on top of the mountain. Bad weather made changing the tapes dangerous and difficult
In the early history of the station the music was different from their current style. Most of the music could be classified as inspirational. It included such artists as Doug Oldham, George Beverly Shea, The Continental Singers and the Haven of Rest Quartet. The format was changed to all contemporary in 1985 when Barry Holt became the General Manager. The music aired on the station is selected for its message content first. They choose not to air songs if the message in the song is unclear. Music makes up most of the 24-hour day, featuring a contemporary style format that appeals largely to the young and middle-aged adult, with special emphasis on youth Saturday night. A couple of hours each day are set aside for teaching and preaching. In 2003, Tim Bagley, radio disk jockey for the show called "Powersource" was let go due to a format change which was dedicated to more music then shows. Tim Bagley had MC'd many shows in the local metro area and northern Georgia.
The WWEV station is now located at 1705 Sawnee Drive in Cumming. They broadcast to the North Georgia and Metro Atlanta area.
