WWE WrestleMania 21 is a video game released on the Xbox console by THQ. It is based on WWE's pay-per-view of the same name. It is also the successor to WWE RAW 2.

Contents

  • Superstar voice over and commentary.
  • Character Evolution: Unique character building story mode allows you to upgrade you Superstar's appearance, abilities, entrance, costumes and moveset as you attempt to win the Heavyweight Championship.
  • Superstar moves and animations come to life like never before with motion captured technology.
  • Pro reversal system: First wrestling game to ever feature a countering system that incorporates a contrary reversal for each and every attacking move.[citation needed]

When the game was first released, many people complained that the supposed online features of the game were not working properly with the Xbox Live service due to a bug in the game's programming, which led to many complaints and refunds of the game. THQ and Microsoft had to release a patch a week after the game's release to fix the problem in America.

The game also suffered from a very lackluster Create-A-Wrestler feature that only had a few choices for looks and moves for the CAW. Also, CAWs could not use wrestling themes that were already in the game for their wrestler (which was strange for a wrestling game) as well as CAWs not being available from the start to be used on the Xbox Live service. Like its predecessor, WWE RAW 2, WrestleMania 21 let the player have the ability to give Create-A-Wrestlers themes with songs from the hard drive; however, you cannot use music from the hard drive for Create-A-Wrestlers in online play.

Studio Gigante originally stated that the problems with the game happened due to a flawed version of the game being used as the master copy at the printing plant. However, a lot of fans of the WWE think this claim is false, since the game was delayed a month before it was actually released, meaning that if Studio Gigante knew about the mistake, they could've corrected the mistake a month in advance.

Because of these reasons, some fans feel that Studio Gigante was too concerned about the graphical detail in the game over the overall quality and gameplay of it.

The game was also criticized for having many wrestlers who were released a while ago before the games released and the game wrestlers had nothing to do with the WrestleMania 21 event.

Also, the in-game bugs are popular in the Internet gaming community and many wrestling gamers have put videos of in-game bugs on YouTube and other video streaming websites.

  • This is the last WWE game to appear on the original Xbox System.
  • The game counts alternate costumes for Rey Mysterio & Big Show as Legends.
  • This game is not backwards compatible
  • Jeff Hardy, the brother of Matt Hardy, does not appear in this game, but players can make him in Create a Wrestler.
