Throughout the 1970s and 1980s WZON was known as WLBZ "Z62" Bangor's top 40 station but changed to talk radio (and was the first affiliate in Bangor to carry Rush Limbaugh) When station management went bankrupt and sold, King bought the station (along with 100.3 WKIT) and changed the format to sports.

Currently WZON airs ESPN Radio and University of Maine sports (however the contract will expire in July 2007 and game broadcasts will move to WVOM and WGUY. They also have an internet only station, that carries sporting events when WZON has prior event commitments (such as University of Maine games or Boston Red Sox games)
