Walter Mirisch

Walter Mortimer Mirisch (born November 8, 1921 in New York City, New York) is an American film producer in Hollywood, California.

Mirisch has produced some of the most famous films in recent Hollywood history including West Side Story, Some Like It Hot and The Sound of Music and has won multiple Academy Awards. His company, The Mirisch Corporation, co-owned by Walter Mirisch and his brothers, Marvin and Harold, produced the first "The Pink Panther" movie and Walter Mirisch acted as producer on that film, although he was uncredited. His son Lawrence Mirisch founded and runs The Mirisch Agency, which specializes in representing editors and other "behind the scenes" members of the montion picture community.

At the 1977 Academy Awards he was honored for his contribution to the motion picture industry with The Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award and in 1982 he was recognized for his humanistic values and dedication to human values with The Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.

Mirisch was president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences from 1973 to 1978.
