Washington County is a county located in the U.S. state of Idaho. The county was established in 1879. It was named after United States President George Washington. As of the 2000 Census the county had a population of 9,977 (2005 estimate: 10,098) [1]. The county seat is Weiser6.

Washington County is home to the Idaho ground squirrel.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 3,816 km² (1,474 mi²). 3,772 km² (1,456 mi²) of it is land and 45 km² (17 mi²) of it (1.17%) is water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 9,977 people, 3,762 households, and 2,738 families residing in the county. The population density was 3/km² (7/mi²). There were 4,138 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (3/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 87.61% White, 1.03% Asian, 0.66% Native American, 0.10% Black or African American, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 8.17% from other races, and 2.36% from two or more races. 13.75% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 3,762 households out of which 32.70% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.70% were married couples living together, 8.20% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.20% were non-families. 23.50% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.30% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.10.

In the county the population was spread out with 27.40% under the age of 18, 7.20% from 18 to 24, 23.40% from 25 to 44, 24.30% from 45 to 64, and 17.70% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 95.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.00 males.

The median income for a household in the county was $30,625, and the median income for a family was $35,542. Males had a median income of $27,222 versus $18,053 for females. The per capita income for the county was $15,464. About 10.00% of families and 13.30% of the population were below the poverty line, including 16.60% of those under age 18 and 9.90% of those age 65 or over.
