Wayland Middle School

Wayland Middle School is an American public middle school located in Wayland, Massachusetts. The current principal is Dr. Charlie Schlegal and the assistant principal is Mr. John Kavaleski. There were 720 students enrolled in the 2005-2006 year.

Wayland Middle School was first opened in 1972, and underwent a major renovation during the 2001-2002 school year. The most prominent addition was a massive auditorium and a 12 room addition. This school is a large co-ed school that serves 6, 7, and 8th graders. The grades are divided into three clusters. 6th grade is the Henry, David and Thoreau. 7th grade is Rachel, Louise, Carson. 8th grade is Martin, Luther and King. That year the students learn about the person and go on a field trip relating to it. Each grade there is a major field trip in 6th grade students sleep over at a museum and go to Walden Pond, in 7th grade students travel to Cape Cod for several days and in 8th grade students take a train to Washington DC where they stay for a week and go to New York caves.

There is a student newspaper, called The Orange and Black . There are many clubs, including Science Olympiad, Math Team, orchestra, chorus, symphonic band, concert band, jazz band, and stage band. The National Geography Bee and Le Grand Concours (the National French Contest) are contests at the school.
