WebMD Health Corp. NASDAQ: WBMD is a provider of online health information services to consumers, physicians, healthcare professionals, employers and health plans through public and private online portals and health-focused publications. WebMD is a subsidiary of Emdeon Corporation NASDAQ: HLTH.

WebMD is available to both consumers and physicians, and contains several different health sites owned and run by WebMD, including WebMD Health, Medscape, MedicineNet, eMedicine, eMedicine Health, RxList and theheart.org.

WebMD Health, WebMD’s main portal, is designed for consumers. It provides health information and it features over 90 lifestyle and condition areas, as well as an online community that includes over 140 moderated expert-led and peer-to-peer message boards.

Medscape is WebMD’s primary professional portal, and as such it's designed to provide physicians and other healthcare professionals with medical and scientific research and findings. It features 30 medical specialty areas and over 30 physician discussion boards. Medscape is the leading provider[citation needed] of online continuing medical education (CME) activities and provides CME activities in a variety of interactive and text-based formats.

WebMD also publishes WebMD the Magazine, a patient-directed publication distributed bimonthly to 85 percent of physician waiting rooms.[citation needed] WebMD also publishes medical reference textbooks ACP Medicine and ACS Surgery, and The Little Blue Book, a physician contact directory.

WebMD also caters to the business sector, as they provide private online health and benefit management portals to large employers and health plans. These portals seek to provide users with a range of health information deemed to be relevant to their health profiles.
