Wellcome (Chinese: 惠康 in Hong Kong; 頂好 in Taiwan) is a supermarket chain owned by Jardines via its Dairy Farm subsidiary. The Wellcome chain is the second largest supermarket chain in South China, behind its rival PARKnSHOP. Its shops are perceived to be slightly lower market compared to its main rival Park n Shop, controlled by Li Ka-Shing. Wellcome also operates in Taiwan under the Wellcome name, and Dairy Farm has other supermarket interests in Asia Pacific under different brand names.

It is worth noting that the correct spelling of the name of the supermarket should be "Wellcome" (double L), instead of "Welcome" (single L).

Contents

Established in 1945, Dairy Farm acquired the Wellcome grocery chain in 1964. Wellcome changed its form to Supermarket in 1968. The current name was adopted in 1980s.

The first superstore opened in 2000 and Wellcome has 16 superstores, far less than its rival PARKnSHOP.

Wellcome has an overall staff of 5,000 in 240 stores and serving more than 14 million customers every month.

Recently, Wellcome opened more superstores, attempting to replace the traditional market. It also sells fresh food such as pork, fish and vegetables. Product variety varies from shop to shop.
