Darling Street, Wentworth

Wentworth is located at the confluence of the Murray River and the Darling River. During the late 1800s it was an important river port, but with the development of railways river shipping ceased and the importance of Wentworth declined.

Wentworth is linked to Broken Hill by the Silver City Highway and to Mildura by the Silver City and Calder Highways.

Wentworth is named for William Wentworth the explorer.

The town is an important tourist outback destination and offers at least two unusual attractions for visitors:

  • Paddlesteamer Ruby - A restored 1907 steam-powered side-wheel paddlesteamer
  • The Great Wentworth Tractor Rally - An annual event
  • The Wentworth Gaol
