West Sacramento is a city in Yolo County, California, United States. The population was 31,615 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 59.2 km² (22.9 mi²). 54.2 km² (20.9 mi²) of it is land and 4.9 km² (1.9 mi²) of it (8.36%) is water.
West Sacramento which lies in Sacramento county city of Sacramento by the Sacramento River. West Sacramento incorporated in 1987 and consists of 4 areas: Evergreen, Broderick, Bryte, and Southport. Southport is newest and resulted from a housing boom in the early 1990s. Recently, IKEA opened a store in West Sacramento near Reed Avenue and Interstate 80. Currently, a very large Wal-Mart is being built right next to IKEA. West Sacramento is also where KOVR-TV/KMAX-TV are housed on KOVR lane. Target opened a new store at the Southport shopping center.
As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 31,615 people, 11,404 households, and 7,595 families residing in the city. The population density was 582.9/km² (1,509.5/mi²). There were 12,133 housing units at an average density of 223.7/km² (579.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 64.99% White, 2.57% African American, 1.76% Native American, 7.22% Asian, 0.58% Pacific Islander, 15.99% from other races, and 6.89% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 29.95% of the population.
There were 11,404 households out of which 34.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.2% were married couples living together, 15.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.4% were non-families. 27.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.75 and the average family size was 3.39.
In the city the population was spread out with 29.8% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 27.7% from 25 to 44, 20.7% from 45 to 64, and 12.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 97.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $31,718, and the median income for a family was $36,371. Males had a median income of $31,176 versus $30,183 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,245. About 17.2% of families and 22.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 31.8% of those under age 18 and 12.4% of those age 65 or over.
