Whale Cove, Nunavut

Whale Cove (ᑎᑭᕋᕐᔪᐊᖅ in Inuktitut syllabics), is a hamlet located just south of Rankin Inlet, in Nunavut, Canada, on the Western shores of Hudson Bay. It is named for the many beluga whales which congregate of the coast. Many of the people there hunt these whales every fall and use them for their oil and food. The community is a relatively traditional one for the people here, (99% Inuit) still wear fur, eat raw meat and fish, and use dogs relatively more often than snowmobiles.
As of the 2006 census the population was 353 an increase of 15.7% from the 2001 census.[1]
