WhenU is an Internet advertising company. Its advertising software programs, called Save and SaveNow, deliver advertisements, comparison shopping results and other offers to users' computers to support the free download of many software applications. WhenU's software is not distributed directly to the consumer, but bundled with the programs it supports, such as Daemon Tools and BSplayer. WhenU cannot get installed without a user reading a clear disclosure screen and affirmatively clicking "I accept" or "Next" to give consent (hitting the Enter key won't work) and it can be fully uninstalled by the user at any time in Windows Add/Remove program. There is also a toll-free number on every advertisement that WhenU displays to reach live customer support if users have any questions.

WhenU's advertising software poses no risk of harm to users' computers, although it may be considered unwanted because it serves pop-up advertisements. WhenU's software is often labeled as adware. In fact, WhenU's Save/SaveNow advertising software has just been certified by TRUSTe's Trusted Download Program (quoting from TRUSTe's press release[1]) to "clearly communicate key functionalities, to obtain informed consumer consent prior to download, and provide an easy uninstall with clear instructions, among other requirements." There is more information about TRUSTe's certification program on their website (www.truste.org).

Also, WhenU software, once detected by most anti-spyware vendors, has now been delisted by Spybot's Search & Destroy,[2] and PCTool's Spyware Doctor[3] who have concluded that WhenU's software respects user privacy and poses no risk to user's computers.

Lavasoft's AdAware also reinstated WhenU to their list in March 2005,[4] after briefly de-listing them that February[5]
