"When I Come Around" is a single from Green Day's album Dookie from 1994. It was the second-to-last single from the album, showing Green Day's largely pop influences. It was probably the biggest hit thanks to its performance at Woodstock '94. The three minute track is a showcase of Green Day's upbeat riffs. It is said that Billie Joe Armstrong wrote the song after having a fight with his wife Adrienne and needed to spend some time alone. They are still together and have two sons.

The song is in the key of F# Major and the main riff consists of the chords: F#5, C#5, D# minor, and B5. However, in this album Green Day has their instruments tuned down a half step, with the main riff consisting of G5, D5, Em, and C5, giving it a "G Major" key.

The music video shows the band walking on in different places in Berkeley and San Francisco, California along with various scenes of people doing common things all inter-related. One of the first scenes of the video eventually leads back to the scene at the end of the video. The band's friend and now backup guitarist Jason White can be seen in the video, with his girlfriend at the time. Mark Kohr directed this video.

Before the video was filmed, MTV used live performance of the song by the band at the 1994 Woodstock Festival.

MTV's Ultimate Albums: Dookie special credited the simple horizontally-striped sweater worn by Billie Joe in the video for starting a fashion trend of similar sweaters.
